How we test
- Items written in the language by a native linguist, never translated from English
- Script and register: Kanji, hiragana and katakana; polite and plain styles
- A proctored retest on new items, then a recorded work sample reviewed by a native speaker

- Rewrite machine-translated Japanese into natural Japanese
- Check answers about Japanese law, business and daily life
